Lantek, world leader in the development and commercialisation of integral CAD/CAM and ERP solutions for the machine-tool sector, continues to boost the R&D area in their determination to offer the market a highly competitive product from the technological viewpoint, adaptable to the needs of different environments and technologies; particularly to the client whose activity lies in the plate and shape deformation.
The fact R&D has become such an important area for Lantek, means in this way the company advances in their solutions as fast as the machine-tool and market improvements progress, not to mention being capable of designing new environments and applications taking advantage of the IT sector evolution. This is the only way to offer a catalogue of latest generation solutions, in addition to providing added value and competitive advantages for users.
In this sense, their vocation for development and commitment to innovation, an area to which 20% of their annual turnover is dedicated; likewise ongoing improvement of their solutions and services has enabled Lantek to become the main integrated CAD/CAM/ERP software supplier worldwide in the metal industry. On breaking down this percentage we see development receives the most resources (approximately 70%) followed by the activities of research and innovation whose ratio is 30%.
“Talking about R&D is to talk about investing in the future, and it’s always a good time innovate and seek alternatives” , states Asier Ortiz, Lantek Research and Development Manager, who adds: “we’re improving our technology to offer quality products and services which meet company needs, making them more competitive and efficient, particularly in view of the current difficult economic panorama. Lantek philosophy is to innovate even in times of crisis, because it means advancing and taking advantage of an opportunity to maintain our leadership and increase our market share”.
Three R&D centres worldwide
Lantek currently carries out their R&D policy at 3 development centres exclusively dedicated to these tasks located in Vitoria (Spain), operational since the company was founded in 1986, and from where the other centres are co-ordinated and organised: Bangalore (India), inaugurated in 2004 and focussed more on management solutions; and Poland active since 2006 and dedicated to the CAD/CAM area.
“These centres carry out a critical role in the evolution of our products, since they enable us to sound the market by being in contact with the client, thus guaranteeing the success of developments whenever we manage to offer a quality solution adapted to the user’s needs”, explains Ortiz.
The Lantek team comprises over 85 software engineers professionally trained by Lantek making them highly knowledgeable of the market, which is noteworthy for its high degree of verticalisation. In this sense, the company manager emphasises that: “Lantek grows as their number of employees grows, who carry out the important task of combining and incorporating new technologies with those extant to obtain quicker, simpler and more flexible solutions which generate greater productivity”, all of which is performed using the most advanced design and programming technologies. An example of this, are the current developments on which they are working, i.e. optimisation of the most powerful interfaces to consume fewer resources and will be available via web in the future.
Collaboration with universities and companies
Furthermore, Lantek has technological collaboration agreements with universities and other companies to carry out research until now not carried out, thus enabling the opening of new work channels and locating new business opportunities. They can also complement their own solutions with other technologies which provide added value.
These and other aspects such as the corporation internationalisation strategy have led Lantek to firmly go for R&D as the key to competing on the national and international market, becoming leader of the CAD/CAM/ERP software application segment for the transformation market of metal, plate, shapes and pipes.
Lantek currently has delegations in: the US, Germany, Argentina, Italy, UK, South Korea, France, Spain, China, Japan, India, Poland, Mexico, Turkey and Czech Republic. In addition, they have an extensive network of distributors throughout the world.
